When Does Gambling Become Bad?
There are a lot of people who accuses gambling of being a bad habit; some may even call it to be addictive. Yes, there are indeed stories of people who have been so addicted to the game that their lives have gone into desolation. There is a very thin line between gambling and addiction that sometimes, the idea of the latter follows the former. Still, we can not blame the game solely. It only becomes bad on certain circumstances.
First, it is not the gambling itself which becomes bad but the person who indulges in such. Gambling is just a concept and could not move on its own. It does not even have its own life, to start with, for it to become bad. Therefore, it only becomes bad depending on the person who plays it and takes the role of the gambler. It will depend on the people playing it on what the notion will be for gambling. If they mess up their lives due to lack of discipline, then gambling becomes a bad habit. But if it becomes a source of positive feelings such as socialization and happiness, then gambling is not so bad after all. This way, gambling can be seen in subjective points of view.
Second, gambling becomes a bad habit when it promotes negative behavior. It depends on those who manage the game or the venue of gambling if they would intend the players to become good or bad gamblers. Gambling has a psychological impact on the people and this can be manipulated by those who manage the game. For example, they could place such a big jackpot and this would encourage people to become more aggressive. However, if they would place a very small amount for the jackpot, then it might also lead to a decreased level of enjoyment for the players. It should be that the jackpot is placed at a normal level based on the casino's financial situation and number of players. Also, if those who manage the game promote unhealthy competition to the point where people forget about the good intentions of the game such as sportsmanship, then it can be said that gambling becomes bad.
Third, if there is a lack of discipline with the players as a result of their interaction with the game and with the interplay of the jackpot, the manager, and the players, then gambling becomes a bad habit. If it is made in such a way that the player already forgets the basic responsibilities they have, then it would start to elicit a bad image for gambling.
If all of these negative behaviors can be avoided by those involved in gambling, then maybe gambling will be a better place to be in and might even be a healthy undertaking for a lot of people.
